Inspiration.

The 90~s are back in fashion and so are the balloon sleeves, the padded shoulders and so on and so on… I always thought that balloon sleeves are beautiful so i wanted to make them the way i think they look great.I used FPDC and BPDC for this project which i have discovered recently and im in love with these stitches at the moment. They help a lot with the shaping of the neck, giving the balloon shape at the sleeves and also the balloon shape at the bottom of the sweater.I also wanted this sweater to be comfy and like having a hug of a big Teddy Bear,so for that velvety yarns are perfect.

How the Crochet Velvet Sweater is Made.

This sweater its worked from bottom up,first in rounds with only FPDC ,and than once arrived at the opening of the sleeves ,is worked in front panel with FPDC and BPDC , and back panel using the same stitches as the font panel. There isn`t much of neck shaping. At the front panel we just leave a simple square for the neck which we work in rounds at the end.And the back just continue working without sleeve nor neck shaping. The sleeves are not sewn, you just work in rounds ,starting at the sleeve opening serving as base chain, than go up in rounds until arriving at the wrist where we do some decreasing so the sleeve gets the balloon shape.

At the end just go in rounds at the neck as i show you in the pattern, and last go a few rounds at the bottom, also decreasing here and there,to give it the ballooney shape. And that`s it.You are done… The only parts sewing are the shoulders. The rest is just crocheting.

Yarn You Can Use to Crochet the Velvet Sweater.

The Blush Velvet Teddy Bear Sweater uses Chenille Baby,ICE YARNS which is a 100% Micro Fiber yarn that is so incredibly SOFT. It also has a loose-ish twist and is very squishy so it has incredible drape. My son comes over for hugs more often when im wearing this sweater and he likes to squeeze it with his hands and always commenting on” how soft ” Mommy is :-)In case this kind of yarn is not available near you look for a DK yarn and make sure that you crochet a gauge swatch before you start your project!
