This is a very diverse stitch ,i have seen it used in hats , mittens , bags , blankets and in you name it projects. The only problem i faced with this stitch was when i needed to use it in rounds without a seam.I have seen a short tutorial some time ago on Youtube, which i failed to save on showing how to crochet a herringbone stitch without a seam.So i put myself to work on trying to recreate what i saw and sure enough after some tries i got the hang of it.
Herringbone Crochet Stitch in Rounds without a Seam
*For herringbone single crochet stitch make sure that your tension isn’t too tight or it can be difficult to crochet.
*The Herringbone Crochet Stitch is a 2 row repeat stitch. The side where you see the herringbone pattern its the RS and the other side its the WS.
*Usually when worked in rounds this stitch is connected with a sl st at the end which leaves a visible seam.
*This stitch is best seen with chunky yarns.
At the last st of the round : Take a long strand with a nod at one end, from the same yarn.
Insert the hook at 3rd loop of last st and at the back loop of the 1st stitch of the round and pull up a loop from the working yarn
Leave the working yarn and pull through the piece of yarn through all 3 loops.
Leave the nod on the left side and start pulling (not hard) both working yarn and loose end so the st will go in place.
Now we start to create the V loop
Insert the loop from back to front of your work at the st on the other side of the round, pull through all the loose end.We created the front loop of the V stitch.
Now we create the back loop of the V stitch
Insert hook at the inner back loop and back loop of the st on the other end of the round.Bring the loose end of the yarn at the hook and pull through the loops the loose end.We created the back loop as well.
Right Side (RS)
Wrong Side (WS)
Now we turn our work and work the WS of the herringbone stitch
Leave the loose end and pick the working yarn.Insert the hook at the st on the right of the st where is the working yarn, from the back to the front, and pull a loop.
Insert the hook from the back to the front of the next st,pull a loop, and sc.
Insert the hook at loop no.3 of the previews crocheted st and than from back to front of the next st,pull a loop,YO and pull through all the 3 loops.
Continue crocheting herringbone stitch at the WS until the before last st.
Once arriving at the last st we crochet the following for a seamless herringbone stitch in rounds.
Insert the hook at 3rd loop of the last st than at the front loop of the st on the other end of the round than pull a loop.Leave the working yarn and pick the loose end.
YO the loose end and pull through all the 3 loops.Pull (not very hard) the working yarn and the loose end,so the st go in their places.
Turn your work on the RS.And now we need to create a V stitch.
Insert the hook from back to front of the st , on the other side of the round, bring the loose end at the hook and pull through all the way.Now we created the front loop of the V stitch.
Now we need to create the back loop of this V stitch
Insert the hook at the st on the other end of the round, from the back to the front, grabbing the inner back loop and the back loop.Bring the loose end at the hook and pull the loose end all the way through. Now we created the back loop of the V stitch and a seamless herringbone stitch in rounds.
To start another round follow the same steps as when we started at the back.
Pick the working yarn ,insert the hook from the front to the back at the right st of the st where is the working yarn, YO and pull a loop.Than insert the hook on the next stitch from the front to the back,YO and pull a loop ,sc both loops.Than continue crocheting HERRIGBONE STITCH as you normally would.
AND THAT’S IT,THIS IS HOW I GET A PERFECT SEAMLESS HERRINGBONE STITCH IN ROUNDS.
