How to crochet a bag in 5 easy steps.

2.Materials that you will need to crochet this bag:

YOU WILL NEED:

● 190 gr of Chenille yarn from Ice Yarns

5 mm hook

● For the tutorial i have used a thin zipper, than i have replaced it with a thicker one made for bags.

Size of the bag (laid flat):

Height from bottom to end of the shoulder strap: 43 cm

Width : 33 cm

3.Follow the written pattern below on how to crochet a bag:

FRONT AND BACK PANELS

First we crochet 2 rectangular panels.Both have the same pattern as the one written below.

Start with 41 ch st(s).

1st Row

sk the first ch from the hook and crochet sc on the 2nd ch from the hook.

Continue crocheting sc st(s) to the end of the ch(s).

1st Row has in total 40 sc st(s).

2nd Row

1 ch, turn your work,sk the 1st ch from the hook and crochet sc on the 2nd st from the hook.

  

Continue crocheting sc st(s) to the end of the row.In total 40 sc st.

3rd Row-24th Row

Repeat the pattern of the 2nd Row.

Each panel will have approx. this measurements:

 

Width : 25.5 cm             Height: 16 cm

THE SHOULDER STRAP AND SIDE PANEL.

For the sides of the bag and the shoulder strap we will crochet only 1 panel.

Start with 17 ch st(s).

1st Row

sk the first ch from the hook and crochet sc on the 2nd ch from the hook.

Continue crocheting sc st(s) to the end of the ch(s).

1st Row has in total 16 sc st(s).

2nd Row

1 ch, turn your work, sk the 1st ch from the hook and crochet sc on the 2nd st from the hook.

Continue crocheting sc st(s) to the end of the row. In total 16 sc st.

Starting from the 3rd Row and until you arrive at the length of 131 cm , repeat the pattern of the 2nd row.

Here are the measurements of the shoulder strap panel:

Width: 10 cm                Length:131 cm

You will have in total 3 panels.

4.Lining the panels of a crocheted bag:

To line the panels , cut the material of your choice in 3 panels with the same sizes as the crocheted panels. Pin them to the crocheted panels and start sewing. Also i have prepared a filmed the full step and you can watch it before you start lining your bag.

 

5.Assemble the crocheted panels of the bag:

Accordingly pin the long panel to both rectangular panels.

After that sew one side of the long panel to one of the rectangular panel, on the 3 sides of the panel.

Also sew the other rectangular panel to the other side of the long shoulder panel.Furthermore turn inside out the bag and sew the rest of the shoulder strap.

Make a knot at the long side of the strap and continue sewing the 2 free ends of the strap.

 

At the end finish up by sewing the opening on the strap.

When the sewing is done, pin the zipper and sew it with the same color thread , so that it wont be seen.
